Grave Relief of a Woman Depicted as a Muse
Description
English: The relief was made near Smyrna (present-day Izmir, Turkey), on the west coast of Asia Minor, and portrays the deceased as a Muse, as indicated by her pose and dress. On other representations of this type, the maiden holds a kithara, a stringed instrument that resembles a lyre or small harp. The smaller figure on the right is a servant girl.
