Summary[edit]

Description

Tuesday is Kingdom Day now that Black Friday and Cyber Monday have departed:-) This fine shot of the Great Southern Hotel in Sneem, Co. Kerry looks wonderful in mono but would have been magnificent in full living colour! If my memory serves me right the late General Charles de Gaulle chose Sneem as a holiday venue following his retirement from politics? He could hardly have chosen a more beautiful and peaceful place!

Based on today's contributions we're able to refine the five decade catalogue range to perhaps a decade of so c.1910. This based on the confirmation that the hotel, now called Parknasilla Resort was built in 1894, opened in 1895, and some of the visible extensions (and ivy growth) likely push us into the first decade or so of the 20th C.....

Photographer: Robert French

Collection: Lawrence Photograph Collection

Date: Catalogue range c.1865-1914. Certainly after c.1895. And likely c.1910.
