Summary[edit]
DescriptionGravestone in Colwick churchyard - geograph.org.uk - 652764.jpg |
English: Gravestone in St John the Baptist's churchyard, Colwick, Nottingham. This is one of a number of well-preserved slate gravestones. The inscription reads:
IN MEMORY OF Pause gentle reader, ere you tread The precincts of this sacred bed, And firmly press upon your mind The frailty of all human kind. In manhoods prime and bloom of life, Beloved by children, friends, and wife, Death, who doth no distiction know, In one short week hath laid him low Note the misspelling in the penultimate line. The letter 'n' has been added in superscript, although this is not legible at this size of image. |
