Summary[edit]

Description
English: William Sawyer, b. 1703 in Londonderry, Ireland. Migrated to America in 1720. He married Sophia Clemson (1705-1788) in 1727. He was a farmer and owned a large tract of land in Lancaster Co. William and Sophia had six children. The oldest, John (1729-1813), is said to have been the first white child born in “in this neighborhood.” Sawyer died in 1784 in Londonderry Township, Lancaster, Pennsylvania. Sawyer was a founding member of Derry Presbyterian Church, where he and Sophia’s graves are still in the churchyard.
