The large canyon, north, above Granite Gorge is Bright Angel Canyon. Note the gray and greenish slope-forming units, in canyon bottom, of Muav Limestone, and Bright Angel Shale. (They sit on the "Tonto Platform", made because of the resistant Tapeats Sandstone; the 3 units are the members of the "Tonto Group".
(Note for photo left)--The sequence changes in the southwest quadrant, (Bright Angel Creek, outlet, downstream (left). The uplifted block contains: the "Unkar Group Horst", (an "island mountain" in the paleo-Tapeats Sea). The peak is Cheops Pyramid, (a subpeak to en:Isis Temple, out of view to photo left). Cheops and Isis are sitting instead on the 'mountain' of Shinumo Quartzite; above are the Redwall Limestone, on Muav Limestone, on Bright Angel Shale, but the Tapeats Sandstone (up Bright Angel Canyon, and right, the rim above Granite Gorge), only laid down as the island perimeter.

Other photos, or other lighting shows the slope-forming colors represented by the Hakatai and Bass Limestone, sitting on the resistant ledge of the Vishnu Group, Vishnu Schist, of Granite Gorge. )
