| Description | Grand Canyon Depot in Grand Canyon National Park, a national landmark (1910). The ATSF acquired the rights to develop the South Rim of the Grand Canyon before there was significant public awareness of the site. They completed tracks to the rim in 1901 with a small frame terminal, making the Grand Canyon the first national park with rail access. After El Tovar was completed in 1905, it became clear that a larger, permanent station was needed. The log station, one of only three in the country, was meant to evoke the architecture of El Tovar. The station closed in 1968, but was reopened in 1989. |
