Summary[edit]
DescriptionGloucester Cathedral, Ivor Gurney window (43819564251).jpg |
A window in memory of Ivor Gurney who was born in Gloucester in 1890 and went on to become a chorister at the Cathedral. He wrote both music and poetry. During the First World War he was wounded and gassed, and suffered a serious breakdown. His condition deteriorated and he was confined to a mental institution for the rest of his life. He died in 1937. The window was made by Tom Denny and installed in 2014. Each light draws on a poem of Gurney's and reflects on his troubled life. At the head of each light there are surviving fragments of mediaeval glass. |
