Description

The cabinet stained glass with a banner bearer in the Grand Hôtel/Hôtel des Alpes in Territet, Switzerland. Albrecht Dürer's engraving "The Burgundian Standard Bearer" from around 1501 served as a model.

The coat of arms shows a young man with flowing hair standing in elegant contrapost above a hill-lined bay. With his right hand, he reaches for his sword, which is largely concealed by his body. The flag in his left hand flutters in the wind. It is a triangular field standard with the Burgundian St. Andrew's Cross on it, which is decorated with flames and a jet of fire and refers to the affiliation to the Order of the Golden Fleece. According to the fashion of the time around 1500, the man wears a green, close-cut doublet with long sleeves, over it a red shirt without a breast part with slit and puffed, half-length sleeves. The close-cut, long trousers including the pubic cap are red like the shirt. The feet are in green cow-mouth shoes. The feather-trimmed headdress is pushed onto the back so that only its feathers and the pink cloth ribbon around the neck are visible.
