Description
Español: Las evidencias en México son al menos 2600 años a. C. y fue utilizado como un símbolo que representaba a la deidad del sol, principalmente los aztecas y otomíes en México, y los incas en Perú.

El nombre científico, Helianthus, significa «flor que gira con el sol»

El patrón de las semillas dentro de la cabeza de un girasol sigue la secuencia Fibonacci: 1, 2, 3, 5, 8, 13, 21, 34, 55, 89, 144, etcétera. Cada número de la secuencia es la suma de los dos anteriores (55=34+21).
