English: COMBAT between the Dutch frigates Castor, Captain Pieter Melvill and Briel, Captain Gerard Vorthuis; and the English Frigates Flora, Captain William Peere Williams and Crescent, Captain Thomas Pakenham, occurred on the 30th May 1781, at the height of Cape St. Marie.

English: FIGHT between the Dutch frigates the Castor, Captain P. Melvill and the Briel, Captain G. Oorthuis; and the English frigates Flora, Captain Wm. P. Williams and the Crescent, Captain Th. Pakenham, which gave itself on May 30th, 1781, in honor of Cape St. Marie.

The engraver of the plate is Joseph Marianus from Augsburg (1738-after 1788). Or did he only engrave the text? Thieme/Becker mentions that he mostly engraved the texts on maps ("stach schriften für Landkarten").
