| Description |
English: There are Civil War cannon all around the battlefield. There are a lot of monuments, over 850, ranging from grand to modest, ranging from states down to small units. The New York State monument is in the background. The monument in the foreground might have been to a battery that served a set of cannon. Part of the Civil War cemetery is on the opposite side of the road. In general, monuments to Army units were placed at a unit's position in the Union line. There are over 850 monuments at Gettysburg.
