Description
Deutsch: Der Löwe wurde 1953 als Mahnmal für die Gefallenen vom Gerlinger Ehrenbürger, dem Bildhauer Prof. Fritz von Graevenitz, auf dem Schlossberg über Gerlingen errichtet. Der Löwe verkörpert Kraft und Mut, er soll mit seinem Schrei alle Menschen weit im Land zur Vernunft mahnen.

Am Sockel des Löwen wurde eine Ode von Friedrich Schiller angebracht:
Der für seine Hausaltäre
kämpfend sank, ein Schirm und Hort,
auch in Feindes Munde fort
lebt ihm seines Namens Ehre.
Drum erhebe frohe Lieder,
wer die Heimat wiedersieht,
wem noch frisch das Leben blüht!
Denn nicht alle kehren wieder.
