Description
The 1907 City Directory lists a Gerald McNamara who works as a bricklayer and resides at 926 26th Ave. S. The 1911 City Directory lists a Gerald McNamara who is a student and resides at 7 The Keene (located at the SE corner of Washington and 19th Ave. S. A January 20, 1911 Seattle Times article notes that several Seattle boys including G. McNamara were signed to play baseball with major and minor league teams. Gerald McNamara's obituary appeared in the Seattle Times on June 3, 1955: "Rosary for Gerald McNamara, 68, retired Bremerton union official and former baseball player, will be said at 7 o'clock Sunday evening in the Lewis Funeral Home, Bremerton. Requiem Mass will be said at 9:30 o'clock Monday forenoon in the Star of the Sea church, Bremerton. Burial will be in Bremerton. Mr. McNamara died yesterday in a hospital. He was secretary of the Boilermakers Union, Local 290, Bremerton, for 21 years. He retired in 1943 after more than 20 years employment at the Bremerton Naval Shipyard. Mr. McNamara was a native of Canada. He came to Seattle as a child. He moved to Bremerton during the First World War. He was second baseman and shortstop for the Seattle Baseball Club and other teams in the Northwestern League many years under the name "Kinky" McNamera. Survivors are his wife, Mary Agnes McNamara and a brother, Edward McNamara, Seattle." McNamara - Full face - seated, (Ball player?") ca. 1910
