Georgia Governor Sonny Perdue was on hand yesterday for the arrival of the last flight of Soldiers of Georgia's 48th Infantry Brigade Combat Team (IBCT) as they returned home from a year's deployment in Afghanistan. The Governor welcomes home Colonel Lee Durham (right), Commander, 48th IBCT as he and his senior command staff deplane at Hunter Army Airfield near Savannah before boarding buses for a Homecoming ceremony at Fort Stewart later that evening. "You are the Citizen Soldiers who volunteered in time of war - and you have to be proud of that," said Gov. Perdue as he addressed the more than 290 returning Guardsmen. Joining Perdue at the welcome home event was Major General Terry Nesbitt (far left), the Adjutant General of Georgia, and Command Sergeant Major Michael Hurndon (descending stairs), the Command Sergeant Major for the 48th IBCT. The 3,200 members of the Georgia Army National Guard had the responsibility for organizing, training and mentoring Afghan security forces, police, and border security officers during their deployment.
