Description
English: Completely imaginary arms of Sir George Warleggan from the Poldark novels. George was always trying to fit in with the traditional Cornish gentry, so his arms show ever possible charge to show George's status: the W for Warleggan to show his status as a self made man, and then every traditional charge from Cornish Heraldry the eagle and fleur-de-lis, the rose, the Cornish Clough, the bezants (particularly significant for a banker), and the portcullis signifying someone who has served as an . This overloaded heraldry is typical of the early 19th century, see for example the arms of the Revolutionary and Napoleonic Wars Naval heroes, such as Admiral Nelson.
