Notes |
English: Louis Narcisse d' Aigremont was a curator in Lille and an amateur painter. Therefore, his different works vary in their quality; however, some of them correspond to the standard of a professional miniature painter. This portrait is one of them. It shows a young gentleman with medium-length hair in front of a dark grey background; under his grey coat with large buttons we can see a black waistcoat with black stripes and a cravat. The sitter' s powerful eyebrows, his cool look and his expressive nose are softened by his delicate physiognomy. His posture expresses pride and vitality. The conspicuous colours of his waistcoat and the large buttons show the gentleman to be interested in fashion.
