| Description |
English: As seen in August 2022, visitors to the Finger Lakes Welcome Center in Geneva, New York peruse exhibits and pause at one of the interative tourist information kiosks. Built in 2018 as a $5 million redevelopment and expansion of the existing City of Geneva Visitor Center, this is one of eleven such regional information centers located throughout the state as a NYSDOT-spearheaded initiative to promote tourism and local businesses. Themed throughout on the plentiful "wine and water" that characterize the Finger Lakes region, the retro exterior is best described as a modernized take on Arts & Crafts architecture, while the even more impressive interior is the collaborative work of numerous design firms from around the local area. The interior walls were finished in reclaimed wood planks courtesy of Pioneer Millworks of Farmington, New York, who also furnished a Douglas fir trellis in the Taste NY restaurant and market area, while the NTMA award-winning terrazzo floor by Tiede-Zoller Tile Corporation of Cheektowaga depicts a detailed three-color map of the region interwoven with curvilinear lines suggestive of grapevines. Aside from the aforementioned, other amenities for visitors include historical and cultural exhibits, a maritime-themed playground for kids, a waterfront patio that doubles as a pleasant event space, and - as at the other welcome centers - a selfie-ready I♥NY sculpture overlooking the lake. |
