| Description |
English: Large hydroelectric generators must be assembled at site. Thousands of silicon steel die-cut laminations are stacked in a frame to make the magnetic core of the generator. In this picture, 17 of the 21 total layers of laminations have been stacked. The finished core will have an inside bore diameter of 8.5 metres and a height of 1 metre, for a 62 MVA 14.4 kV 60 Hz generator, 128.6 RPM. Temporary key bars in the coil slots are used to guide the placement of laminations. In this stator core, 108 laminations are stacked and then a ventilation opening is created using a spacer. During assembly the core is periodically pressed to compact it. Once the core is complete, insulated copper winding coils will be pressed into the slots to form the generator stator winding. |
