DescriptionGeneDavisStreet.jpg |
In May 1987, as part of a two-day joint fundraiser for the Corcoran School of Art and Washington Project for the Arts in honor of Gene Davis, an important artist of the color field movement and former Corcoran faculty member, The Corcoran and the American Art Museum coordinated efforts to paint a giant stripe on 8th St. NW between D and E Sts designed by Mokha Laget, long time studio assistant to Gene Davis. Now 20 years later, May 2007, the DC Commission on the Arts and Humanities in collaboration with the Corcoran have recreated the 1987 project as an homage to Gene Davis with Mokha Laget as the lead artist for this project once again. Ms. Laget has created an alternative scheme much closer in color, rhythm, musicality, and lyricism to Gene Davis paintings. www.colorfield.remix.com |
