Summary[edit]
DescriptionGate Ornamentation, Dunraven Park. - geograph.org.uk - 1215451.jpg |
English: Gate Ornamentation, Dunraven Park. The ornament on the entrance gate to the park depicts an earl's coronet, heraldically depicted as having five silver balls on stalks alternating with four small gold strawberry leaves. The initials C and D are, I imagine, those of Caroline Lady Dunraven, wife of the 2nd Earl. She was a great benefactress of the town and people of Bridgend who, on learning of the Report to the General Board of Health by G.T. Clark in 1849 on the Sanitation and Water Supply of Bridgend, provided the towns first piped water supply in 1857 paying for it herself as the Local Board were unable to do so. In honour of this she was presented with an illuminated address and Eastgate was renamed Caroline Street. She died in Clearwell Court in the Forest of Dean in 1870. |
