Summary[edit]

Description Francis "Gabby" Gabreski (center), poses with two former 8th Air Force members at the grand opening of the Mighty Eighth Air Force Heritage Museum. Col. (retired) Gabreski, an Oil City, PA, native, was the 8th Air Force's most successful fighter ace with 28 kills in the air and three on the ground during World War II while flying the P-47 Thunderbolt with the 56th Fighter Group that was nicknamed Zemke's Wolfpack after its commander Hub Zemke. Gabreski scored one triple and eight double kills. ID: 960801-F-6010S-016
