Notes |
Josiah Freeman - appears on the Nantuket scene on 1864, when he came from New Bedford to open a studio with David Coffin, of Nantucket. As a young man he soon demonstrated his ability, and prospered despite the depression in the Island's economic fortunes. In 1867 the partnership was dissolved and Freeman carried on the business alone. Another possible Artist was (Pos. 13315) E.B. Robinson, Nantucket .. All the crew escaped and some of the cargo saved before she broke up. A storm occurred and pounded the ship to pieces such as this bow section, with bits of timber and cotton scattered over miles of the beach. Note the men in the left of the view, probably “wreckers” salvaging what remained. |
