Der Sohn Rudolf Garbe über seine Eltern:

In den Jahren vor dem Kriegsausbruch (am 1.8.1914) arbeiteten meine Eltern in der reommierten Firma Revillon in Paris... Deutsche Kürschner wurden in diesem Hause bevorzugt eingestellt.
Im Jahre 1911 erhielt mein Vater, der mit Erfolg seine Meisterprüfung abgelegt hatte, eine feste Anstellung bei der Firma John und Krebs in Berlin. Dieser Arbeitsplatz war für die Familie schicksalhaft, denn dort war Franz Garbe meiner Mutter begegnet und ich erlernte in demselben Hause später das Handwerk eines Kürschners.
Die Firma befand sich in der Poststraße., Nähe Savigny-Platz. Später arbeiteten beide in dem Pelzhaus Mannheimer... Chef in der Werkstatt, Handjery-Straße, war natürlich mein Vater.
1924 Etagenwohnung mit vier Zimmern, das größte diente als Werkstatt.
