Summary
[edit]DescriptionFunerary statue of a dog at the National Archaeological Museum of Athens on 7 May 2018.jpg |
English: Funerary statue of a dog. Pentelic marble. Found in Piraeus. The animal is depicted facing right, with its head turned toward the viewer. The dog was probably a self-contained monument, symbolizing the faithful guardian of the tomb. The pronounced sculptural treatment of the head and neck, and the outturned front paw lend characteristically natural air to the animal, which is preserved together with the oval plinth. 375-350 B.C. Accession number: 3574. National Archaeological Museum. Athens, Greece.
