DescriptionFuneral procession for the Yarrol (near Monto) air crash victims in Bundaberg, 1948.jpg |
English: A twin engined United States Douglas Dakota transport plane crewed by four American airmen, was lost on its final leg from Ward's airfield in New Guinea to Archerfield in Brisbane, via Cairns, Townsville and Rockhampton on 21 November 1943. The plane loaded cargo in Townsville and mail in Rockhampton. After leaving Rockhampton the aircraft disappeared without trace.
On 21 June 1948 a farmer found the wreckage in a gully on Magpie Station at Yarrol, in the Monto district of Queensland. The plane was carrying 4 American crewmen, 2 American military passengers and 7 Australian military passengers. |
