Object history Tuesday (December 12th) Adam's, 26 St Stephen's Green, Dublin 2. 'The Christmas Collection' Auction. Lot 512, a set of four oil-on-copper paintings by an unknown artist, described as English School (19th Century) – Ladies in 17th Century Costumes and with provenance given as "Captain HCP Hamilton, Moyne, Durrow, Co Laois", sold for €22,000 – more than 14 times the top estimate (€1,000-€1,500) [see pic]; Lot 231, an Egyptian silver and gold mounted cigarette case, a gift to the vendor from the former King Farouk of Egypt €1,300 (€1,500-€2,000)
