Deutsch: "Die Identifizierung des Dargestellten beruht auf der Familienüberlieferung der Vorbesitzer. Philipp II. (1674-1723) war der Sohn von Herzog Philipp I. und dessen Gemahlin Elisabeth Charlotte, der berühmten Liselotte von der Pfalz. Als Neffe von Ludwig XIV. führte er nach dem Tod des Sonnenkönigs die Regentschaft für dessen unmündigen Urenkel Ludwig XV. Das Bildnis eines Herren mit bereits weiß gepuderter Allongeperücke und Prunkharnisch zeigt aber auch Ähnlichkeiten mit dem sächsischen Kurprinzen Friedrich August. Der spätere Kurfürst von Sachsen und König von Polen befand sich 1714 auf seiner Kavaliersreise in Paris, wo ihn u. a. Rigaud, Largillière und Louis Silvestre porträtierten."
