English: So-called Portrait of Francis I, Holy Roman Emperor (1708-1765), but it’s probably a depiction of his father Leopold, Duke of Lorraine (1679-1729)

Italiano: "Il personaggio ritratto è identificabile in base alla scritta sul retro, per altro recente, con Francesco Stefano duca di Lorena (1708-1765), che sposò nel 1736 Maria Teresa d'Austria, dando inizio alla casa di Asburgo-Lorena e diventò granduca di Toscana (1737-1765) e imperatore (1745-1765). L'identificazione è convalidata dal confronto con il ritratto conservato a Firenze, Uffizi (Ic 981), attribuito al pittore romano, attivo a Vienna, Gabriello Mattei e databile al 1735-40. Il dipinto passò dal secondo piano di Palazzo Reale all'attuale collocazione nell'Appartamento di Madama Felicita probabilmente in occasione dell'allestimento concluso nel 1971 e del quale rende conto il testo di R. Tardito Amerio, dove il quadro è citato senza l'indicazione di un restauro con rifoderatura che sembra però essere avvenuto" [1]
