Summary

[edit]
Description
English: Map from c. 1720 showing in precise detail the territory and borders ("Gebiet und Gräntzen") of the Free Imperial City of Frankfurt am Main (shown in yellow), and those of neighboring states such as the County of Hanau (delineated with a red line). Frankfurt's territory also comprised a few non-contiguous portions (exclaves). A view of the city is shown at the bottom of the map. The cartouche on the left shows a market scene while the one on the right shows the crowning of an emperor, Frankfurt being the city where new emperors of the Holy Roman Empire were elected and crowned.

The map — published by Johann Baptist Homann c. 1720 — is titled Abbildung der Keysrl. Freyen- Reichs- Wahl- und Handelstatt Franckfurt am Mayn mit ihrem Gebiet und Gräntzen.

Homann had published a variant of that map with somewhat fanciful borders (see below).
