Manuscript letter

Archives Number: 1011/002.001-023#022

Dearest Annie
I send you a letter I got yesterday from Sam which you may like to see tho’ I suppose you have one. I was quite anxious to know how much he saw of the cruel scenes in Paris & am glad he was wise eno’ to keep well out of them as private letters state the soldiers fired most barbarously at all within reach.
Little Alice sends you back 50 kisses for your beau [p. 2] tiful sack which has a most fairy like grace She received it by Mrs Appleton on Saturday.
She flourished Xmas evening to the admiration of all actually keeping awake till nine o’clock & dancing & singing thro’ the brilliantly lighted rooms at my fathers – quite the belle of the ball. She of course was the youngest there & was rushed at by young & old but bore it all smilingly & serenely.
[p. 3] Old Mrs Codman was the oldest present. It went off merrily as usual Mrs Sumner joining in the merry reel with Erny quite heartily. I hope Harry liked his sled and received it safely on Saturday. It is from “Uncle Henry” to replace the lost one. The books Sam sent I also hope arrived. Let me know if there is any thing you would like in Boston. With love to Alex & Lizzie & Aunt Lucia
ever affly thine
Fanny.

Tuesday
[p. 1 cross] Happy New Year to all! Henry will send you by Express the English illustrated edition of his poems It should have gone with the sled but he had it not in town.
