Summary[edit]

Description
English: 17 February 2008. Fournier Street, Spitalfields, near the junction with Brick Lane, looking towards Commercial Street. On the right, at number 59 Brick Lane, is the Jamme Masjid (Great Mosque).

The building was originally a Protestant church, built in 1743 by French Huguenots. From 1898 - 1970 it was a synagogue - the Machzike Hadath.

The building became a mosque in 1976, serving the large local Bangladeshi community. It's one of the larger mosques in London.
