Four Early Medieval Pottery Vessel Sherds
Description
English: 4 bodysherds of Anglo-Saxon pottery, from different vessels. All the sherds have old, worn breaks.

1) Reduced dark grey-brown with fine quartz (sand) inclusions and moderate organic material. Probably dating 5th to 8th century AD. Measuring 32.66mm by 29.32mm with maximum thickness 7.9mm. Weight 6.94 grams. 2)Reduced grey ware with oxidized brown-orange inner surface. With abundant chalk tempering and voids where chalk has leached or burnt out. Winchester type series fabric MBX. This sherd is of late Anglo-Saxon date, 9th to 11th century AD. Measuring 25.22mm by 21.04mm, maximum thickness 6.32mm. Weight 3.29 grams. 3)Reduced grey ware with oxidized brown-orange inner surface. With abundant chalk tempering and voids where chalk has leached or burnt out. Winchester type series fabric MBX. This sherd is of late Anglo-Saxon date, 9th to 11th century AD. Measuring 27.85mm by 19.58mm, maximum thickness 5.83mm. Weight 3.32 grams.

4)Abundant medium to large coarse quartz inclusions. Of uncertain date, from Roman through to 13th century Medieval. Measuring 43.93mm by 34.29mm with a maximum thickness of 7.74mm. Weight 10.36 grams.
