Summary[edit]

Description Foster Yeoman Class 59/0 no 59002 "Yeoman Enterprise" at Westbury, 6 July 1987. Foster Yeoman operated five of these locomotives for stone traffic from Merehead Quarry, but their operations are now run by Mendip Rail, a joint venture with ARC Hanson. The locomotives were built in the United States (La Grange, Illinois) by General Motors Electro-Motive Diesel (EMD) between 1985-89. This was the first time that I'd seen one of these locomotives, and it crawled through Westbury at an ultra low speed with the longest train that I'd ever seen! Since 1996, this locomotive has been named "Alan J Day."
