"=Natural History Story=
Some creatures travel a long, subterranean road in their return to ash or dust. Abundant Devonian gastropods occur at Marengo Creek, a short hike from Virginia Falls, Nahanni National Park, Northwest Territories, Canada. Mother Nature has just freed these 300 million year old snails from their rock entombment. They came to light because, starting some 50 to 70 million years ago, a leading edge of the Earth's crust has been uplifting and eroding a succession of mountain ranges called the Cordillera Orogen, which runs from Alaska to Patagonia. These fossils will tumble ever-so-briefly in gravel beds before their forms finally pass on. "
