English: Ford. This dry ford on 440418 looks more like it should be classified as a bridge until one realises that Thornton Beck has a large catchment of moor and forest.
In times of prolonged, heavy rain this little stream carries a sufficient amount of water to not only turn this into a wet ford but to also flood parts of the village as well as to add to the misery of people living downstream in Malton. To the right of this photograph (off the picture) a public 440808 leaves the lane and follows the beckside upstream toward Ellerburn. 440811 are in the background. |
