| Description |
New Orleans: Snapshot view across the Mississippi River towards the foot of Canal Street from Algiers Point, late 1970s. Note the absence of the oil boom skyscrapers which were added to the Central Business District skyline in the 1980s. Hilton Riverside Hotel (first highrise at left) is visible, built 1977, so photo is no earlier than then. Other highrises visible (left to right) are International Trade Mart (later World Trade Center), Lykes Building, and Plaza Tower. The Iberville Wharf is still intact just down river from Canal Street. |
