Summary[edit]

Description
English: As seen in May 2020: located at the northeast corner of Linwood Avenue and West Ferry Street in Buffalo, New York, this sprawling Gothic Revival-style church building, the work of architect R. C. Fayfield, was built in 1914 as the home of All Saints Episcopal Church. Notable throughout the façade are the window heads over the Gothic-arched windows, done in cream-colored terra cotta in stark contrast to the dark red brick of the façade; the main entrance and the large window above are additionally framed by Gibbs surrounds, and the trim around the gables of the roof matches. The founding of All Saints Episcopal Church was spearheaded by Rev. Cleveland Hyde, who in 1879 sought to establish an Episcopal congregation to serve the burgeoning Cold Springs section of the city. The congregation built this church as their third home, after stints worshipping at the building now home to Bethel AME Church and in a no-longer-extant building on the corner of Main and West Utica Streets. In 1960 they moved again, to Maple Road in Amherst, where they endured until c. 2009. In 1963, the building became home to the Linwood Avenue Church of Christ, an African-American congregation that remained there until 2001 whereupon they moved to a larger building on Main Street. The building has been vacant since then and is currently for sale.
