An enlarged engraving (Fig. 28) shows the kind of needleused, which has a blunt point and a long, smooth eye ; thecut also shows the direction taken by the needle in executingthe pattern. When well finished, this kind of needle passeseasily under the figures on the surface of the cloth, the workprogressing rapidly without overtaxing the eyes.
