Summary[edit]

Description

An ant colony is a Superorganism, that is is an organism consisting of many organisms. Ant and termite colonies are an example of Eusociality; that is the highest level of social organization in a hierarchical classification. I'm convinced that in many ways, our human society is a sort of superorganism.

I recently read (but did not fully comprehend) "The Superorganism: The Beauty, Elegance, and Strangeness of Insect Societies" by Bert Hölldobler and E.O. Wilson:
