Granite

Granitic rocks are widespread throughout the Earth and are the most common rocks found on the surface of the continents. Yet true granite, like this, is rarely found in the North Cascades. Intruded into older rocks, it cooled slowly, forming coarse grains of quartz, mica, feldspar, and other minerals.
