Heinrich-Böll-Stiftung, Berlin Enteignung oder Infotopia? Google Books und die Zukunft des Wissens

Google will der Menschheit mit seinem Buchprogramm Millionen von Büchern zugänglich machen - auch Bücher, die vergriffen sind oder deren Urheberrechtsschutz abgelaufen ist. Nie war die Verheißung des „Wissens für alle" so groß. Und nie war die Gefahr größer, einem Quasi-Monopolisten zu überlassen, was die Aufgabe öffentlicher Daseinsvorsorge sein sollte. Was steckt hinter dem Google-Books-Settlement? Was bedeutet es für Leser, Bibliotheken und Urheber? Im Oktober soll ein US-Gericht über die Zukunft der Bücher entscheiden. Wird es, darf es das auch für deutsche Leser, Autoren und Verlage tun? Selten war die Lage unübersichtlicher - und wohl nie zuvor war ein einzelnes Verfahren wichtiger für die Zukunft des Zugangs zu Wissen als dieses.
