Summary[edit]

Description

Trailhead, Joyce Kilmer Natural Area, Union County, within Bald Eagle State Forest.

The natural area protects a tract of old-growth hemlocks on the talus-covered north slope of Paddy Mountain. The hemlocks are found just below the summit.

Sadly, the natural area is heavily infested with the hemlock woolly adelgid, an exotic insect pest. Many trees, I noted, were dead or dying.
