Summary[edit]

Description
English: Flexlume Sign Company, 1464 Main Street, Buffalo, New York, August 2020. The ground floors of this two-story Neoclassical-style brick commercial building have been altered with wooden slats covering the windows, but happily, the upper stores retain their unusual original design of tripartite windows flanked by sidelights and separated by pilaster strips, each of which contain a concrete bracket at their crown supporting a projecting stone cornice underneath a brick parapet. Of course, the dominant feature on the building is the original blade sign advertising what's now Buffalo's oldest, and what was once the world's largest, manufacturer and purveyor of neon and other illuminated signs. Flexlume has occupied the building since 1946; it was originally built in 1908 as a branch location of the local J. N. Adam chain of discount stores whose eponymous owner, James Noble Adam, was mayor of Buffalo at the time it was built.
