Summary[edit]

Description

Fleet street in London is a great place to go and have a drink and has plenty of pubs for a short street. I personally preferred Fleet street when it was the bustling home to most of the countries newspapers. The Old Bell Tavern has been a licensed tavern for more than 300 years. Built by Sir Christopher Wren, it housed his masons who were rebuilding St Bride's Church after the Great Fire. It’s also located on the same street as a certain infamous villain that you may have heard of, Sweeney Todd the Demon Barber of Fleet Street. The George pub dates back to 1723. It was originally a coffee house and despite the pub sign featuring George III, the pub is believed to have been named after the landlord. This pub may not be in Fleet street but is in the Strand near the beginning of Fleet Street. The Punch Tavern A former 19th century Gin Palace, this historic site was named in the 1840s in homage to the regular drinkers from nearby Punch magazine. Ye olde Cheshire cheese should have a mention..

Rebuilt shortly after the Great Fire of 1666, the pub is known for its literary associations, with its regular patrons having included Charles Dickens, G.K. Chesterton and Mark Twain. It is up a little alleyway and is difficult to photograph..
