Summary[edit]

Description Eagle Scout Builds Owl Boxes for Sensitive Owl Species on Humboldt-Toiyabe National Forest. Eagle Scout Kynan Lee of Spring Creek, Nevada, built 16 owl boxes to create nesting habitat for flammulated owls. Lee and several volunteers installed these nesting boxes on the northwestern portion of the Humboldt-Toiyabe National Forest’s Ruby Mountain/Jarbidge Ranger District. Lee elected to help protect Nevada’s flammulated owl population as part of his Eagle Scout Service Project. Flammulated owls are a small forest owl that nests in tree cavities. The flammulated owl population is scarce across the Humboldt-Toiyabe National Forest, perhaps due to a lack of nesting habitat. Lee hopes these boxes will greatly increase the nesting opportunities for the northern Nevada population of this rare avian species. Credit: US Forest Service.
