Description
Deutsch: Das erste vom Trace Gas Orbiter aufgenommene Bild der ESA-Roscosmos-Mission ExoMars 2016.

Das Bild wurde von der Kamera Colour and Stereo Surface Imaging System CaSSIS aufgenommen und zeigt einen zufälligen Himmelsausschnitt nah am südlichen Himmelspol. Für die Aufnahme wurde zunächst ein CaSSIS-Einzelbild aufgenommen, der Rotationsmechanismus der Kamera bedient und dann ein zweites Einzelbild geschossen. Beim Abgleich der beiden Bilder sieht man eine Reihe heller und dunkler Punkte, die sich alle in jeweils selben Position befinden, was bedeutet, dass dies positive und negative Bilder der jeweils selben Sterne sind.   Der Bildausschnitt in 0,2º horizontaler Richtung ist ein Ausschnitt eines größeren Bildes, um die Sterne in einer angemessenen Größe darstellen zu können.  

Am Mars angekommen, wird CaSSIS in einer Höhe von 400 Kilometern anfangen, Bilder aufzunehmen, während der TGO die Marsoberfläche ansteuert. Dann wird der Rotationsmechanismus um 180º gedreht, woraufhin derselbe Bereich abfotografiert wird wie zuvor. So wird CaSSIS Stereoaufnahmen der Oberfläche liefern.
