English:

The Seattle Fire Department Fire Station #4, shown here, was located at 4th Ave North and Thomas Street from 1908 until 1921. In 1925, the building was converted into the Fire Alarm Office, which was demolished in 1961 to clear land for construction of the Space Needle and Seattle World's Fair grounds. This photo shows firemen, at right, sliding down poles while other firefighters prepare horses. Horses pulled several types of conveyances for the Seattle Fire Department between the 1870s and 1920s, including steamers, ladder trucks, hose wagons and chief's buggies.
