Description

Screenshot of privacy preferences in Firefox 43.0.4, where the "ask me every time" setting about keeping cookies is selected. When this setting is active, a cookie prompt then appears before a cookie is saved.

Mozilla Firefox 43.0.4 is the last such version of Firefox to prompt for cookies. The "ask me every time" option was removed in Firefox 44.0, and has not reappeared in future releases of Firefox.

The subsequent cookie prompts then ask the user about what to do with cookies and their originating domain; to decide whether to:

  • accept a cookie,
  • allow it for session, or
  • block it.

After a decision has been made, a cookie is then accepted or denied.

An active checkbox makes the decision permanent for the cookie's originating domain. That way, cookies from a particular domain are automatically either permitted, set for session, or denied in the future.

Environment:

  • Mozilla Firefox 43.0.4, separately downloaded and additionally customized;
  • Knoppix 7.2;
  • Window manager: Metacity 2.34.3-4;
  • Window decoration theme: Mist;
  • Widget theme: Industrial. This offers the darkest plain titlebar color in Knoppix 7.2, and a clearer UI.
