Summary[edit]

Description
English: The sculptor and Villa Massimo Prize winner (1930) Emil Rasmus Jensen (Q1336707) (1888-1967) at work in his studio in the Ohlendorff House in Hamburg, which was destroyed in a bomb attack in 1943. The artist stands behind the sculpture 'Die Quelle' (The Source) which depicts Goethe, Beethoven, and Michelangelo over a reclining female nude. On the recommendation of the director of the Hamburger Kunsthalle, Prof. Gustav Pauli, he received a scholarship from the Hamburg state and worked there from 1932 wall to wall with the artists of the 'Hamburg Secession'. His artist colleague Martin Irwahn rescued him in 1943 after the bombing ('Operation Gomorrah') from the bunker of the burning Ohlendorff house.
