Description
English: the Festa della Bruna is a centuries-old popular festival that takes place in Matera on July 2nd. the party starts in Alba on 2 July (from 5 in the morning) with the "procession of the shepherds" (this procession was made by the shepherds who could not attend the party). when the procession of the shepherds is over at 10 the ride begins (more than 100 knights, dressed up, escorting the Madonna from the cathedral to the “church of Piccianello, a church located on the outskirts of Matera). finally in the afternoon there is the final procession where the Madonna is placed on the cart, and from the church of Piccianello it returns to the cathedral, where it will make 3 laps and finally it will be destroyed by the population in the central square. the destruction consists in the crushing of the papier-mâché artefact into a thousand pieces
Italiano: la festa della Bruna è una festa popolare plurisecolare che si svolge a Matera il due luglio. la festa parte all Alba del 2 luglio (dalle ore 5 del mattino) con la “processione dei pastori” (questa processione veniva fatta dai pastori che non potevano assistere alla festa). terminata la processione dei pastori alle 10 inizia la cavalcata (più di 100 cavalieri, vestiti a festa, scortano la Madonna dalla cattedrale alla “chiesa di Piccianello, chiesa situata alla periferia di Matera). nel pomeriggio infine c’è la processione finale dove la Madonna viene posta sul carro, e dalla chiesa di Piccianello ritorna alla cattedrale, dove effettuerà 3 giri ed infine sarà distrutto dalla popolazione nella piazza centrale. la distruzione consiste nella frantumazione in mille pezzi del manufatto in cartapesta
